Hi. Cathy. I am Nerisa Pampilo, a member of the peer review team for Participate. I work at the elementary school here in North Carolina. I will be reviewing your Learning Product for Ask About the World: Global Inquiry. I am looking forward to working with you in this module. Thanks.
I am glad that you were able to incorporate a significant collection of artists that can support you to meet your objective of this module. I was particularly drawn by the works of Freda Kahlo who serves as an inspiration of several artists and a great inspiration of your students in the class to become curious of how they can represent themselves to others through their self-portraits. It was evident in your student work that you were able to make a high engagement possible with your students in the class. I was wondering if your students were able to communicate themselves about their inspiration in making their artworks. Have you talk about the meaning of their works and what does each self-portrait signifies, about their feelings or emotions and what does the face profile or contour, shapes and expressions meant to them so that they will be able to express themselves as they share their self-portrait with one another. In that way, your students can conduct an introspection of their lives so that they be aware of how are they going to behave themselves with other people who have different perspectives, attitudes and or behavior as a unique individual in the society and in the world in general. I like that you allowed your students to dig deeper and be more reflective of their own self, their attributes and unique makeup and traits as shown in your student reflection. It transcended beyond what they can perceive through appearance, finding out their commonalities and differences about their racial identities but also emotional content that can become intense, intimate and powerful for your students to explore other expressions drawn from other artworks from their peers and other people around the world as soon they become curious about other people's artworks that can be an actual manifestation of their own culture and traditions. I appreciate you for being able to create an opportunity for your students to hold an exciting activity despite your limited time with them in the art room and whatever unresolved issues you may have, I believe that you will handle them with prudence, justice and fairness just like when you convey the importance and appreciation of the human race; its commonalities, differences and unique attributes and how people are connected with one another regardless of skin color and or race. Congratulations on a job well done! I am pleased to award you with a badge for this module. Please continue to mold your students to enhance their global competencies. JH - 5/15-18/18 - Badge Awarded - NSPHello, Janelle. I am Nerisa, a member of the peer review team for Participate. I work at the elementary school here in North Carolina. I will be reviewing your Learning Product for You Belong Here: Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning in a Global Classroom. I am looking forward to working with you in this module. Here’s the link that you can use: docs.google.com/document/d/133TxZyYwnJLXRpDEpQxPXYwRX8HX5DNaVpNPmbkSMt8/edit Again here's the link of the Participate lesson plan template that you can use. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be here to support you. Thanks!https://docs.google.com/document/d/133TxZyYwnJLXRpDEpQxPXYwRX8HX5DNaVpNPmbkSMt8/edit Hi, Janelle. I appreciate your submission of your lesson plan, however, I am still unable to access it so please go back to your google doc and change the privacy or permission status of your lesson plan to "Anyone who has the link can view". Thanks a lot! I would like to request you to change the privacy or permission of your lesson plan so that I can access it and I can already proceed with your feedback and we can already award you with a badge. Thanks! I am sorry but I can't still access your lesson plan so you have to enable the access through giving me permission or choose to share to "Anyone who has the link can view". Thanks. You have chosen an interesting topic about Cinco de Mayo that you were able to tackle with your students to accomplish your goal in this module. I was wondering if you have shown to them some videos about the actual celebrations and how the people in Mexico and other countries celebrate Cinco de Mayo and what was the underlying culture and traditions of the festivities. Does it signify victory and honor of those who participated in the war won by the Mexican army over the French forces? It was also essential that the students won't only enjoy the festivities but also understands the history and origin of the celebration. They have to see the reenactment of the Battle of Puebla as part of the celebrations during Cinco de Mayo or the 5th of May. You have to emphasize it as a tribute to the bravery of the Mexican people over the French. It is now progressed as celebrations with songs and or music and dance and food. I like that you were able to let your students compare and contrast Cinco de Mayo with the 4th of July which was very significant for them to reflect about the deeper meaning about the holidays aside from the thought that they surely appreciated and enjoyed the celebration through the food being served during the celebrations. This would somehow promote awareness of your students to the intricacies of culture and traditions of people around the world as they celebrate the different holidays and practice a different way to showcase people' s unique attributes and perspectives on things depicting one's customs and beliefs. I am glad that your students were able to enjoy the commemorations of the Cinco de Mayo in your class. I suggest that you continue to enhance your students' curiosity and global intercultural awareness of the different holidays that would emanate various traditions and culture of people around the world as you focus on the festivities, you can also remind them of the significance and value of the celebration to manifest personal identities and background. Good job, Janelle. Congratulations! I would like to award you a badge for your work in this module. Please continue to mold your students to develop their global competencies. BT - 5/15/18 - Badge Awarded 6/7/18 - NSPHi, Beatriz. I am Nerisa, a member of the peer review team for Participate. I work at the elementary school here in North Carolina. I will be reviewing your Learning Product for Ask About the World: Global Inquiry. I am looking forward to working with you in this module. Thanks. The objectives of this course are to (integrate the global competencies for the course such as curiosity, critical thinking, and knowledge and understanding of global issues into your academic curriculum). You were able to describe a lesson of high engagement; however, it doesn’t quite match the objectives of this course. Could you go back to review the course objectives and then revise your "learning objectives" and "ask for compelling questions" to incorporate the learning from this course into your classroom. I noted that you included Osmo Tangram in your collection, you can incorporate this into your "learning objectives" and "ask compelling questions" in conjunction with your lesson. You can apply Tangram or the art of paper folding with the shapes lesson that you tackle with your students and talk about how tangram depicts Chinese culture and tradition. To edit the work, you will revisit the lesson plan in your google doc to make revisions. Subsequently, in your reflection, please go back to you learning product and "Join the Discussion" so that you could you tell me how your students were impacted by this teaching? It is also one of the ways we can continue to grow in this work is through in the process. I would love to see you reflect on this lesson plan. What worked well? What would you change next time? In what ways did this lesson impact your students. Thanks, and please let me know if you have questions and I will be here to support you. Hello, Beatriz. I haven't seen any updates on your learning product yet. Please let me know if there is anything I can help you in this module. I will be here to support you. Thanks! Hello, Beatriz. I love to see that you would be able to finish this module. Please incorporate tangram lesson to your activity or the art of paper folding or you may also select some monuments or symbols around the world to integrate the shapes and talk to us when you "Join the Discussion" the impact of this lesson to your students. Thanks, and please let me know if you have questions. I will be here to support you. Hi, Beatriz. I love to see that you will be able to finish this module. Whenever you have time look back in your lesson plan and specify the shape that your students will be able to see in the surrounding or you can compare and contrast for example the Eiffel tower with the Statue of Liberty as a national symbol and let your students identify the shapes and what these two landmarks symbolize. Please let me know if you have questions and I will be here to support you. Thanks! Hi, Beatriz. Please check if you can utilize these videos before the end of the school year just like a game activity with your kids then "Join the Discussion" to tell me about it. Thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5mc-dkYLfI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbh1gkr0-Qc Excellent work, Beatriz! I appreciate you for being able to update your lesson plan. I hope that you will find time to initiate the revision of this lesson and I hope that you will be successful in executing this activity to become more challenging to your kids in interesting and exciting ways. I bet your students will find it more stimulating when you start showing them the videos that they can think deeply and be curious about finding the composite shapes that were found during the virtual field trip around the world when they visit the Eiffel Tower in France, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, Tower of Pisa in Italy, the Colosseum in Rome Italy, the Louvre in Paris, Middle of the Earth in Ecuador, and others. I like that you executed well your plan to apply tangram in your activity with your kids in the classroom which is also very interesting for them because in this way you can allow them to discover about the Chinese culture associated with tangram application and how origami has impacted the people around the world. It must have been hard for you at the beginning to indulge your students this inspiring journey, however, I believe that it is worth a try and it paid off at the end to expose your kids to a more intricate effort to develop their intercultural knowledge and understanding about the world, become more curious on things they never seen before, or not have been given attention as their focus in the teaching and learning activities pertinent to global awareness. I am pleased that you have successfully motivated your kids to have fun in learning new things around them as they studied the shapes in their existing environment particularly at school in the cafeteria, playground, and gym and then eventually around the world when they were able to conduct the virtual field trip or watch the videos of the significant places and symbols where they can explore and investigate the composite shapes. There are so many things that you can reveal to your students to become more aware and understand the world and the people therein connected with your inquiry-based learning experience with your students in the class. I suggest that you continue to find strategies to develop your global practice. You can look for more amazing resources at Participate collection that you can refer from time to time as you continue to engage your students to enhance their global competencies. Congratulations! I am glad to award you a badge for this module. Please continue to mold your students to develop their global competencies. |

I can tell that you have given them enough opportunities to explore and investigate using inquiry-based learning about several personalities or important and or famous African-Americans that contributed to shaping a tremendous impact in the lives of the American people as evidence in your student work and reflection. These people that your students have studied, researched and showcased during the celebration of Black History served as a strong motivation and inspiration for your students to dig deeper and be aware of themselves, their own identities and background, become proud of their race and can stimulate them to acquire more knowledge and understanding drawn from their curiosity and critical thinking of how they can also do something to make a difference or contribute to world peace. I hope that you have covered or emphasized various monumental events in the life of these heroes who been admired or idealized for their courage and strength, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities that mark a phenomenal milestone in the history of the African-Americans. I suggest that you continue to focus on how can your student get connected with what is also going on around the world with other global issues and cultivate in them not only curiosity and knowledge but also developing empathy towards those people who may have difficult situations or circumstances that they might become an agent of change as time progressed just like the history of the great Black heroes of all time. I appreciate you for being able to learn using the resources provided at Participate so please continue to explore more and you will be amazed of the various resources and tools that you can use to support you with the courses that you are still planning to take on Participate. I honestly recommend that you continue using an inquiry-based learning with your students to develop their curiosity and global awareness because there is no easy best practice but only to become better through more exposure to the implementation of the global competencies to encourage the students to make a difference through a peaceful influence and action. Congratulations! I would like to award you a badge for this module and please continue to mold your students into better global citizens of the country and the world in general. I was unable to find any resources in your collection using the link that you provided in your learning product, however, I was able to locate some in your profile that can support you to achieve your objective in this lesson to be able to complete this module. It was shown in your student work that I was able to pull out from your resources that you have allowed your students to explore and investigate various important landmarks or symbols in the United States which will be a great start for them to be curious about other places around the world. Have you also talk to them about what these symbols or landmarks signify or represent so that they will develop their knowledge and understanding about the places where the landmark can be found that will help them wonder and think about the people and or community therein that are different or may have similar characteristics of the community they belong. Anyhow, I find it fitting to focus on what we have here in the United States to convey to your students that these places depict the culture and traditions in the United States. I encourage you not to stop here but lead your students to come to realize that there are also signs and symbols in other places around the world that can communicate to them about people's culture and traditions. I suggest that you continue to use this inquiry-based learning with your kindergarten most often so that they can achieve a better understanding of the world using their level of understanding. You have sufficient collection that can support you to achieve your goal in this module. I am glad that you were able to compile resources about your lesson and I appreciate your initiative of taking your students to action on making a jump rope out of a plastic bag that can help them think about what they can do to help save the environment. I like that you successfully led them to move to a genuine or actual work to foster the real deal of reusing, reducing and recycling materials to save the environment and to make a better world. Apparently, I can tell that your students were really motivated to accomplish this project as evidence in your student work. It was also significant to note that you gave them an inspiration by introducing to them a Powerpoint presentation on the Gambia and the reading aloud about "Isatou Ceesay and "Recycling Women of the Gambia". I bet that you have certainly encouraged your students to become heroes or an agent of change just like the powerful influence made by Isatou Ceesay to the women in Gambia to turn plastic waste into revenues and think about recycle plastic waste which is one of the worst pollutants of our environment and a huge global issue which is not only a concern of the advocates for change but for everyone to make a better world. I am pleased that you have unfolded to your students this big global issue of caring for the environment or mother nature and I am hoping that you will continue to uncover to them other issues included in our Sustainable Development Goals and establish connection or let your students be able to connect the issues around the world so that they can think about what they can do to make a difference in the society they live in and the world in general. I like that you feel that you have the liberty as I do that you can cultivate the skills freely to your students while you do the lesson to comply with the requirements of this module. I appreciate you for having a plan to continue using an inquiry-based learning with your students to develop their curiosity and global awareness because there is no easy best practice but only to become better through more exposure to the implementation of the global competencies to encourage the students to make a difference.
