About Me
I am happily married for 16 years with 3 wonderful kids. My 1st daughter is in 9th grade and she attended Roanoke Rapids High School. My 2nd daughter is in 7th grade at Chaloner Middle School in Roanoke Rapids and my 3rd child is in 5th grade at Pittman Elementary School.
I am a very dedicated, highly self-motivated and goal oriented professional committed to pursuing a high level of performance, enthusiastic and compassionate for the effective delivery of library services and manifested love on working with people in all walks of life and maintained a satisfactory rating in instruction or teaching reference and informational skills and have professional work ethics and willingness to work hard to achieve objectives and lifelong interest in education and learning.
I have obtained my Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Library Science at Cor Jesu College, Davao del Sur in the Philippines where I had worked as a working student in our centralized high school and college library for 3 years. Then, when I finished college, I got a job as a College Librarian at St. Mary's College, Tagum City, Philippines where I was given a scholarship to finish my Master of Science in Library Science at University of San Carlos, Cebu City, Philippines with the thesis entitled: "Library Promotion Strategies of the Two RVM Tertiary Institutions: A Marketing Plan.
After 5 years, I moved to work as a Court Librarian in a Regional Trial Court in Tagum City and I also came back to work at St. Mary's College as a part time college instructor and part time college librarian again in that same school. I had worked also as a part time Library Consultant at a nursing school in Tagum City before I came to work in the United States.
In January of 2007, I was accepted to work here in Halifax County Public Schools, North Carolina. I was assigned as a Media Specialist here at Pittman Elementary as my base school and Enfield Middle School as my additional assignment and then I was reassigned at McIver Elementary then Hollister Elementary after McIver was closed.
Furthermore, I have won 2 Bright Ideas Grants for Pittman Elementary in 2 years consecutively, namely: "Read Me A Dr. Seuss Book" in 2010 and "Gong Hey Fat Choy, Little Readers in 2012 and one from Halifax Education Foundation Grant last school year for Hollister Elementary, entitled: "Who is Dewey? Do We...Dewey?". I was selected "Teacher of the Year" at Pittman in 2011-2012. I have organized 2 Scholastic Book Fairs in Fall and Spring time for the last 3 years to present. I have worked hard to encourage students to develop their lifelong love for reading using Accelerated Reader Program and using the library resources as well. I have worked as a lay out manager for Pittman webpage since 2012-2013 school year and at Hollister this 2013-2014. I am hoping that I can work collaboratively with the teachers and staff to come up with some projects to integrate technology in the classroom this school year.
I am so glad to have worked collaboratively with the 3rd to 5th grade teachers during the global awareness project for each class. We planned of introducing the big 6 model for research before the students started their research project. So, I went to each class to talk about the big 6 and also gave them a short lesson about important facts and figures about each country they are working on such as China for 3rd grade, Brazil for 4th grade and Philippines for the 5th grade. We had a wonderful learning and fun activities in 5th grade because I was able to share more important facts about the Philippines and we had a fantastic skype interview with a doctor in the Philippines and a live presentation about "The Night Life of the People of Tagum City" presented to us by another person via skype. The students had learned about the street foods and some Filipino to English translations that made the activity a learning or educational and fun activities for the children. We also displayed christmas parole outside of the door of 5th grade and christmas cards dedicated to the victims of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and the Filipino food tasting was provided to parents and students in the 5th grade class during the culminating activity. I was able to create a edmodo account group for 5th grade which was "Tigers' Den Learning Lounge" where students were able to share their learning about the skype presentation. That was another terrific technology integration piece we have done during global awareness project initiative.
Luckily, I also won my third time for 2013, $ 1000.00 award from the Bright Ideas grant, "Yippee!!! New Books For Us..." It is designed to purchase books for Pre-K - 2nd grades including the struggling readers and below grade level students who will benefit the beginning reader AR books.
I was also chosen as "Employee of the Month for Halifax County Schools" for the month of December. Thank you very much to my principal, Ms. Jacqueline Williams and all my colleagues for your trust and confidence.
Lately, we were given the opportunity to participate in the Library of Congress Surplus Books Program which was awarded last June 2014 for two years. Our first visit was on July 25, 2014 which was so worthwhile because we were able to get 10 boxes of books and I am excited to have our next visit on January 31, 2015 as tentative plan.
I also won another Bright Ideas Grant, "Eagles' Nest Books on Wheels" which was awarded in Greenville for the purchase of an award winning books for our students at Pittman Elementary and just recently recognized as one of the High Flyers for SY 2016 - 2017.
